Ms. Carmen is from the DC/Maryland area. A few years ago she came to the New Orleans area to pursue an Elementary teaching certificate. She has worked in childcare at various grade levels for the past nine years now. After working with grades seventh through twelfth she decided to go back to teaching preschool. She loves the personalities of the younger kids and being able to be a part of their most fundamental years of learning. She has been passionate about younger children since she was two years old! Her mom would tell her stories about how she used to stay behind to feed the infants during outdoor play.
Ms. Carmen’s approach to teaching is centered around the arts. She strongly believes that a child learns at their best when they are interacting and having fun! Her favorite activities are: puppet shows, story time, going on a bear hunt, and sensory play. She recognizes that communication skills and conflict-resolution skills are important for a child to develop early on.
Ms. Carmen has an open door policy for parent participation and suggestions. No one knows you child better than you do! She appreciates any tips or opinions on how to make it a great year for you and your child. She encourages you to get involved, get dirty, and get excited. This is going to be a great year.
In her free time Ms. Carmen sings in her church choir, dances with the Nola Bombshells, and spends time with her two cats Oreo and Pheobe 🙂
